3. "Why don't you accept families who home school through a Charter ISP or Public school ISP?

 Answer:

There are many reasons, but an important reason is that Charter and Public ISPs are funded by the government.  By law, government-funded programs cannot "teach religion directly, or indirectly" according to the California State Constitution, Article 9, Section 8: "No public money shall ever be appropriated for the support of any sectarian or denominational school, or any school not under the exclusive control of the officers of the public schools".

Since DCHEA is a Christian Home Education Support Group, Article 9 dictates that we accept only families who can legally teach religious curriculum.

DCHEA knows that some ISPs are more strict than others, but the law is clear.  Besides the legal fact, there are stewardship and Biblical authority issues that make it a wise decision to steer clear of them.

We follow HSLDA's guidelines, and they do not accept members who charter school, as well as CHEA of Ca who also does not recommend it.

If you'd like more information on government-funded Charter ISPs, please read

4. "Is there a home school ISP option, other than the Charter ISP or Public School ISP?"

  Answer:

Yes.  There are Private ISPs that are run through churches, private schools and other non-government entities.  Grace Christian Learning Center in DHS run by Deborah Hayden is a good example.  She offers several options from which to choose.  However, over 90% of DCHEA members are independent.

            Answer:

Use the Withdrawal templates that CHEA suggests.
