Purity

By Larissa Pendergrass

My dad took me out for breakfast for my thirteenth birthday. As we were waiting for our food, my dad gave me a ring, a purity ring. He explained to me that the ring is a promise to God that I am going to stay pure until marriage. He also told me that now that I am getting older, there is going to be a lot of temptations and that if there is a temptation that I need to remember the promise I made to God. God explains to us that our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit, and that you are not your own.

"Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

We need to respect ourselves and know that there are consequences for our actions. We need to not lead others into temptations nor do we want to be lead into temptations. Some of the temptations that we fall into is when we see people showing body parts that need to stay covered or when girls and boys touch each other , like playing around. Not realizing that it could be uncomfortable for the other person.

If you get touched in a place that you know that you don’t want to be touched and you don’t say anything that gives the person the idea that he/she likes this or doesn’t care and I can do that again. If you ever get touched make sure you say something if you don’t like it, so that it shows that person that you do respect yourself and you dn’t want to get touched, and most likely he/she will stop.

A purity ring, necklace, anklet, etc. will help you remember the promise you made to stay pure. So talk with your parents more about purity and understand how important it is to stay pure.

Here are a few more verses about purity.

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

Romans 12:1-2

"For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or death."

Philippians 1:19-20

"Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people’s sins; keep yourself pure."

1 Timothy 5:22
